High Holy Day Calendar

Leviticus 23:26-32
26 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
27 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
28 And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God.
29 For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.
30 And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people.
31 Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.
The day of Atonement is a day commanded for all Israelite born men, woman, children, servants and beasts. We are commanded to afflict our souls by not allowing anything to enter our mouths. There is no eating or drinking from evening unto evening. The goal is to show obedience by controlling your spirit and in meekness humbling our hearts to the will of the Lord.
For Example:
Jonah 3:5-10
5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
We are to sacrifice as well but not how you falsely believe.
Under the new covenant seeing that Christ became the sacrifice, we observe and present our bodies a living sacrifice which is our reasonable service.
Romans 12:1
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Proverbs 25:28
28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
Fasts are important for controlling your spirit, showing your obedience to God and most of all Commanded we keep them.
Day Of Atonement
Atonement refers to the reconciliation or restoring of a relationship between the children of Israel and God, achieved through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ
